Music in the mountains

The brief was to produce a logo for music in the mountains. I designed the logo, but decided to put it into the context of a flyer. It"s for a spanish village so don't really think it would be what they would be looking for, but its something else for my portfolio.

Telegramme

The work is to over complicated or what i am wanting to achieve, but most of there work is screenprinted so it the same type of quality to it that want to achieve. The stock something that maybe i should be in contact with them about.

Lizzie Ridout

I looked at Lizzies work last year, and also met her at the Leeds book fair. I went back onto her website recently and these images gave me ideas in how i could represent the front cover diffently, rather that just using image, i could use photography to make image.I could set up the image i wanted to shoot and use it for a front cover, or a poster based around a book. It would be a good way to get me to us the photography lighting more. I have had a induction into basic flash lighting so its a good idea.It would offer variety to my work, and get me to grips with how to light my work.

Matthew croft

Typographer - i stated in my rationale that i wanted to look into typography. Croft is a good person to look at, because his designs are interesting but still kept quite simple. I dont necessally want to design my own type, but i do want to consider it in my work.

The print club

I came across the print club in London. Basically, they run a club that you can join, and go and screenprint, its for learners and professionals. But the good think is you can pay them a monthly subscription fee and use there facilities. If i w at to do some freelance work on the side this is defiantly a good place to look into.

Keep in simple

These are some initial ideas for the redesigning of the book cover " Rowing to Alaska". I want to consider how you could portray the idea of an endless journey, so i was thinking of using lines running across the page, or an unfinished circle. These are just rough but they are a starting point.

Hans Gremmen

Something to consider - the mixture of large bold type, with smaller more constructed type. This would be good as an intro into the book.

Gremmen is a Graphic designer based in Amsterdam. His work is quite typical of the graphic style at the moment, BUt i have looked at him because of his simple use of type and layout, because along with simple imagery, i want to use clean cut type for the inside of the inside of the books, that is still visually interesting.

Alvin Lustig - Book jacket design

How he has used colour to overlay text here, i think offers a differnt way to how the contents of a book could be represented, rather than it just being in black and white.

I was researching some articles that Steven Heller had written and came across Lustig. He introduced the principles of Graphic design to book jacket covers, so he is very relevant for to my FMP. Some of his work is quite modernist. But the work i have looked at is simple which is appropriate to what i want to achieve. He uses block colours and understated imagery.A good influence for the work i want to achieve.

YCN

When i was doing the spread some feelgoodness for the last module i got sick of it, i think i over did it.So i took an original image and tweeked it a bit making it into a flyer for an event held by spread some feelgoodness. I might just finnish this of really quickly and do some boards ready to send of for the competion.

Update!

I have finished my first book cover design, i don't no if its good enough to win the awards, but its a quick start for me thats good.I need to carry on designing book covers, as fast as i can.I need to start on the D&AD competition brief aswell and start designing my research pages for my book, and compiling it all together so that i can do it as i go rather than all at once at the end.

Penguin book covers

Theses are just some images of penguin book cover designs, i have photographed the simplest ones for ideas.I am hopeing that i can just produce the book covers quite quickly since they are supposed to be about simplicity.

Penguin awards

The book is entitled ' The secret history', i produced this cover in a day, the back and front are ment to form a pair of eyes.I am going to screenprint this and see how it turns out.On to the next . . . .. .

Drip - dry shirts:

Throughout the book there is block colours, i could do this, and combine it with text thats about the reseasrch.I could do it through screenprint aswell, its easy to print block colours and this way it would be easier for me to experiment with colour.

This book is about the evolution of the designer, i am looking at it because the layout inside is very simple, they use block colours and print onto different textures throughout the book. This could be useful to look at when i am creating my book of research it would maybe be good to do something similar ti this to show that i have considered different papers, colours etc and how this can give the look the simplicity.
