concertina book

For my final piece i am doing concertina books. Unfortunatly i couldnt get them double sided like i had hoped so i decided to produce three concertina books but the paper stock is quite thin and wouldnt stand up so i japanese stitched them down the side. each concertina book is differnet, two show patterns and the third shows the numbers. For the final book, i am thinking of printing a long concertina that documents the change form numbers to pattern and binding it in a hard back cover so when it opens out it fans out.

Design context

Along with the the fold posters, in the pack there will be 20 postcards, on the front will be the artists images and on the reverse there will stickers with the artists names on and their contact details on the back. This is so that my design context becomes more of a directory for myself so that i have artists images and contact details logged for future reference. Especially screen printing companies, so that i can get in touch with them, and have a record of them for future use.

Fold out posters

Instead of doing a book for my design context i have decided to produce a pack with postcards in and interviews. The interviews will go on fold out posters like the ones in the photographs. These are only test pieces as i havent quite worked out the type on them yet, and im thinking of changing it into four colums. There will be three interviews all together, all with different layouts but all on fold out posters that will sit within the pack.

Screen printing in hull

A friend of a friend brought a load of screen printing equipment of ebay and has set it up in a warehouse in hull. Me and alex went over to do some screen printing with him. My screens didnt come out right though because i had them on tracing paper rather than accetate so we couldnt get the timings right on the light unit, so i ddint get much time to do alot of printing, but i did manage to get one screen exsposed. He uses oil based inks rather than water based inks so the colours came out much stonger. He had a whole range of colours to use so its a shame we didnt get a chance to do more printing, so hopefully i will get a chance to do more printing.

Almost modern _ Design context

Almost modern do exactly what i want to do, make things simple. I have chosen to include them in my design context because of their use of type. I stated in my statement of intent i wanted to start looking at type more aswell. They use bold block type, simple layouts and simple colours - loves it.

FMP -

I was thinking of producing concertina books, but now after the crit i have decided to bind all my tracing paper prints so that you can see how they would layer up, and then produce patterns form thats to screen print large scale to be pined up on the wall with my exhibition. Perhaps like a long installation piece. In terms of using colour i was thinking that i could use brown, because i have picked the brown line i could do the patterns in brown,so that when you over layer them the brown will change opacity.

Desconstructing existing print

I started to deconstruct the bus timetable,so i have split it down into layers, picking out the numbers 0 - 9, so that when they are layerd over each other the numbers will match up. These are some test prints that i have done for the number one,i only intended to print them onto tracing paper as test prints, but they came out quite nice, and it makes sense to produce them on tracing paper so that you can see how they begin to layer up.
